Licking County sits directly east of Franklin County, with Newark as its county seat — a mid-sized city with a much longer independent history than the newer Columbus suburbs, built around manufacturing and, more recently, a growing logistics and distribution presence. Granville, home to Denison University, sits just west of Newark and adds a small-college character to part of the county. Licking County is noticeably more rural and exurban than Franklin County once you're past its western edge, and its pace of new senior-community development has been slower.

The county's western boundary is where it intersects most with places families search for by name: a small portion of New Albany crosses into Licking County, and Reynoldsburg has slivers here too, though both cities' primary senior-care options and addresses sit in Franklin County.
