Senior Care in Franklin County, Ohio

Ohio's most populous county, and the deepest senior-care market in the metro.

Franklin County is the seat of Ohio's state government and, with Columbus as its county seat, the most populous county in the state. It's also, unsurprisingly, home to the largest and most varied collection of senior living communities we cover: independent living, assisted living, memory care, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) that let a couple move between levels of care without changing addresses. Beyond Columbus proper, Franklin County contains most of the inner-ring and northwest suburbs families search for by name — Dublin, Westerville, Gahanna, Grove City, Hilliard, Reynoldsburg, Upper Arlington, Bexley, Worthington, and most of New Albany (a small slice of which crosses into Licking County).

Because Franklin County is so large, "senior care in Franklin County" isn't really one market — it's a dozen smaller ones. Upper Arlington and Bexley are small, established inner-ring suburbs with older housing stock and long-tenured senior communities. Dublin and New Albany are newer and more affluent, with communities built in the last two decades. Columbus itself contains everything from historic CCRCs near Ohio State University to newer memory care residences on the west and north sides. Grove City and Hilliard, both growing southwest and northwest suburbs, currently have fewer independently verified options in our directory than the older suburbs do — that's a gap in what we've verified so far, not necessarily a gap in the market, and we say so plainly on those cities' own pages rather than filling space with names we haven't confirmed.

If you already know Ohio's assisted living communities are licensed as Residential Care Facilities rather than under a separate "assisted living" license, or you want the details, see our full explainer on how Ohio licenses assisted living. For memory care specifically, Ohio regulates it as a disclosure requirement layered on top of that same license rather than a distinct license category — see how Ohio regulates memory care for the full picture.
